Thanks for everything, Mum

The Most Important Person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral – a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body.

Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty

The painting above is by the hand of a Carmelite nun living in a Tokyo convent. More works by the same nun can be found in this online exhibit; the same painting can be found with its matching companions (one for each season) on this page. Tip of the hat to the New Liturgical Movement for bringing this exhibit to my attention.

  1. It’s very nice. It really shows the love of a mother to her child.

  2. Ah, a very nice painting and an excellent quote🙂

    • I’m actually looking forward to seeing more of the unnamed nun’s work the next time I visit Tokyo. I’ve read that her convent sells Christmas cards to support their community; hopefully I can track down where these cards (and perhaps reproductions of her other works) are available so that I can take some home with me.
