I couldn't do anything about the import duties, but I spread out the freight charges by putting the Shinkai Makoto DVD collection in the same order (it got shipped earlier at no extra cost, effectively halving the shipping fees). YesAsia are also selling the R1 DVD, and since they're based in Hong Kong the express freight charges would have been much lower - but they've priced the set at list so I actually ended up saving a few dollars by ordering from the US! The situation would have been different had I elected to use standard - i.e. non-express shipping - but whenever I purchase DVDs I always choose the fastest option because on top of speed I'm protected by insurance.
